Hapoel Fall Soccer – 5764 (2003) – Week 1

THE G’DOLA LEAGUE Player Honors – Week One

Boy’s Division: G’dola League (4th – 6th Grade Boys)

Game Summaries

Last year’s last place team, Team Yerushalayim, played last years Second Place Team, Team Tsfat, and showed the league that this is not the same team as last year. Last year’s Team Yerushalayim was a great squad, but they lacked the ability to score goals consistently. It appears that Team Yerushalayim has found the ability to score goals. Team Yerushalayim beat Team Tsfat 4-2 with goals by Shmuel Gabai, Noach Bergman (twice), and Izzy Kates. Both Matty Miller and Noach Bergman had assists. Last year’s G’dola League leading scorer, Dovid Feldman, and a “new player” for Team Tsfat, Gedalia Kott, scored goals for Team Tsfat.

Last year’s league champion, Team Chevron, played a very tough Team Tiveria and showed why they are the reigning league champions. Team Tiveria was up 1-0 with a goal by Noach Aryeh Schwartz. Team Chevron tied the game on a goal by “new player” Steven Elenberg which was assisted by Jonathan Galitzer. Later, Steven Elenberg scored his second and the game winning goal of the game. Team Chevron is back. And, Team Tiveria is going to be a very strong team this year.

Week 1 Honors
The “Play Hard” Player of the Week: Anyone who saw the Yerushalyim-Tsfat game watched two “new players” shine as players. Both played very hard. The first player worked very hard all game. And, his hard work paid off beautifully as his team recorded a 4-2 win over Team Tsfat. You wouldn’t know that this player was the key to Team Yerushalayim’s win from looking at the scoring sheet. Yet, he was the “engine” for Team Yerushalayim today. The Hapoel Soccer Club League Committee very much looks forward to watching this boy play throughout the season. The first Play Hard Player of the Week is… Matty Miller, Yerushalyim. The Second Play Hard Player of the Week is also both new to the league and a fantastic goalie. The G’dola League has had several incredible goalies and this player’s performance today has to rank up with the best that we have seen. This player had a fantastic opening day performance. The second Play Hard Player of the Week is… Dani Singer, Team Tsfat.
The “Play Smart” Player of the Week: This player played hard and… played smart. He had two goals and an assist in Yerushalayim’s 4-2 win over Tsfat. We look forward to watching this “new player” in the upcoming weeks. This player and the Hapoel Soccer Smart Player of the Week is…. Noach Bergman, Yerushalayim.
The “Mensch” Players of the Week: While it is always great to watch a great individual performance, it is always better to watch a great team effort. Reigning champion Team Chevron was losing 1-0 when two players produced some gorgeous offensive teamwork. The first player dribbled both creatively and beautifully and created the goal scoring opportunities for this second player. These two players gave us an idea of the kind of gorgeous goals a team can create if you work as a team. This offensive duo of Team Chevron and the Mensch Players of the Week are… Steven Elenberg and Jonathan Galitzer, Team Chevron.

THE K’TANA LEAGUE Player Honors – Week One

Boy’s Division: K’tana League (1st – 3rd Grade Boys)

Game Summaries:

The first league match and the season opener saw a re-match between the two teams that played in last season’s championship game: the Tel Aviv Blue Dolphins and the Netanya Orange Hawks. Last year’s championship game was a thriller which ended with the Netanya Orange Hawks winning the championship match with an overtime golden-goal: 2-1. And, this years re-match was another thriller. The Blue Dolphins were up 1-0 like last year and the Orange Hawks fought back to win the game, 4-1. Yitzi Feldman had the goal for the Blue Dolphins while Yaakov Singer, Noah Horn, and Max Frankl (twice) scored the goals for the Orange Hawks. Yehuda Rudack and Chaim Shlomo Komarow had an assist each.

The second league match featured two teams that were strong teams last season and appear to be even stronger this year: the B’nai Brak Golden Lions and the Haifa Green Eagles. The Golden Eagles played the Green Eagles to a 1-1 tie. And, anyone who saw these teams play this Sunday would agree that these are two teams to keep your eye on. The Golden Eagles goal was scored by Avi Pines and assisted by Simmy Ruchelman while the Green Eagles goal was an unassisted goal that was scored by Meir Retter.

The third and final league match featured the two new expansion teams in the Hapoel K’tana Soccer League: the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves and the Eilat Silver Sharks. Both teams featured several returning players from last season as well as several new players. And, more importantly, both teams showed a lot of talent and class. The silver Sharks won the match 6-0. While the Red Wolves were not in top form today, one can tell that once the players “find their positions” and come together as a team, this is going to be a very strong squad. The Silver Sharks’ goals were scored by Duvie Bergman (three times, which ties the K’tana league “most goals in a game” record), Eli Bookstaber, Eitan Grunhaus, and Naftali Ginsburg. Duvie Bergman’s first goal was assisted by Avrohom Mond.

Week 1 Honors
The “Play Hard” Player of the Week: Anyone who saw this player play this Sunday watched a soccer player hard at work. And, his hard work paid off beautifully as his team recorded a 6-0 win and he tied a league record for the most goals in a game. The Play Hard Player of the Week is… Duvie Bergman, Eilat Silver Sharks. The Second Play Hard Player of the Week just… played hard. He scored the Orange Hawks first and tying goal against the Blue Dolphins and… he just played very hard. The second Play Hard Player of the Week is… Yaakov Singer, Netanya Orange Hawks.
The “Play Smart” Player of the Week: This week’s Play Smart Player of the Week played a beautiful game. The Hapoel Soccer Club Committee can not point at one single moment or event in the game that speaks to his play today. The fact is just that he played very hard and he played very…smart. He is a new player to our league and we are very excited to watch him play as the season progresses. This week’s Play Smart Player of the Week is… Yehuda Mendlowitz, Tel Aviv Blue Dolphins.
The “Mensch” player of the week: Anyone who has seen the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves’ Robert Elenberg play, knows that his strength is scoring goals. Last season he was the second leading scoring player in the league and he currently holds the league record for the most goals in a game. For the red Wolves’ game today, when the Silver Sharks were scoring too many goals, Robert was asked to play goalie. Not only did Robert show that he is just as good a goalie as he is a goal scorer, but he also showed that he is a big mensch for putting his team’s needs before his own. Our Mensch Player of the Week in Week 1 is… Robert Elenberg, Be’er Sheva Red Wolves.

THE GIRLS LEAGUE Player Honors – Week One

Game Summaries
For many, if not most, of the girls playing today, this was the first time that they had ever played organized soccer. But, you would never know it by the level of play. These girls must be practicing a lot because the games were beautiful. In the K’tana League, Tel Aviv beat Eilat 2-1. Hapoel Fall Soccer – 5764 (2003) – Week 2

THE G’DOLA LEAGUE Player Honors – Week Two

Boy’s Division: G’dola League (4th – 6th Grade Boys)

Game Summaries

A Deja Vu of last year’s Championship Final: Team Chevron vs. Team Tsfat. And, to the make the deja vu even stronger, there were five goals scored and they were all scored by Jonathan Galitzer and Dovid Feldman. But, that is where the Deja Vu ends. This time Team Chevron did not emerge victorious but Team Tsfat did. Feldman and Tsfat had 3 goals while Galitzer and Chevron had 2. The final score: Tsfat 3- Chevron 2. One of Dovid Feldman’s goals was assisted by his brother Ezra.

A tough Team Tiveria played the current league leader Team Yerushalayim and… beat them 1-0 on a goal by Noach Aryeh Schwartz. Despite a loss to Team Chevron in week one, everybody now knows that Team Tiveria should never be taken lightly. Despite a hard fought loss, Team Yerushalayim showed the league that they have a “never say quit ” attitude. They fought very hard to the very end of the match.

After Week One, Yerushalayim and Chevron seemed the obvious favorites to play in the Championship finals. After Week Two, Tiveria and Tsfat seem to be the two best teams in the league. The bottomline is that the G’dola League has four great teams.

Week 2 Honors
The “Play Hard” Player of the Week: Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like just yesterday that I was giving this exact same player the “Play Hard” player of the week. Though not the biggest player in the league, this boy is fearless. he goes in hard for every tackle, no matter how big his opponent is, and… usually wins the ball. To watch this player play is to watch the epitome of the “Play Hard” award. Though he won this award many times last year, for the first time this year, the Play Hard Player of the Week is… Shalom Sukol, Chevron.
The “Play Smart” Player of the Week: When people think of Team Tsfat, they think of two things. their ability to score goals and… there stingy defense. Last season, Team Tsfat had one of the most difficult defenses to score upon in the league and in this current season… nothing has changed. Tsfat’s defense held Team Chevron’s outstanding offense to only two goals. And, those two goals they felt they could have “saved”. Tsfat has a great defense. Though many players play defense for Tsfat, three players are the defensive anchors. These defensive anchors for Team Tsfat and the Hapoel Soccer Smart Players of the Week are…. Max Byer (Goalie), Ami Ifrah, and Ari Byer, Team Tsfat.
The “Mensch” Players of the Week: Elie Mendlowitz of Team Tiveria played very hard and smart defensively this week. Any time a defender holds Matty Miller and Noach Bergman of Team Yerushalayim to zero goals, that is a great day’s work. Elie preserved a 1-0 lead for the Tiveria Orange team. And, above all, his “menschlichkeit” showed in his concern when he inadvertently injured another player. This player from Team Tiveria and the first Mensch Player of the Week is… Elie Mendlowitz, Team Tiveria.

Dovid Feldman of Team Tsfat is no stranger to scoring goals. This week he had a hat-trick (3 goals) to seal the victory for Team Tsfat over last year’s champion Team Chevron. While there are many ways to score goals, Dovid has a way of scoring goals that is just… beautiful. His trademark “moves” are composed of stops and starts and frequent changes of direction. And, above all, his biggest “move” is neatly tucking the ball into the back of the net. For his gorgeous performance this week and putting his name back on the top of the league’s goal scoring leader board, the second Mensch Player of the Week is… Dovid Feldman, Team Tsfat.

League Standings
Yerushalayim: 1 Win, 1 Loss, 0 Ties for 3 Points. 4 Goals For and 1 Goal Against.
Chevron: 1 Win, 1 Loss, 0 Ties for 3 Points. 4 Goals For and 4 Goals Against.
Tiveria: 1 Win, 1 Loss, 0 Ties for 3 Points. 2 Goals For and 2 Goals Against.
Tsfat: 1 Win, 1 Loss, 0 Ties for 3 Points. 5 Goals For and 6 Goals Against.

THE K’TANA LEAGUE Player Honors – Week Two

Boy’s Division: K’tana League (1st – 3rd Grade Boys)

Game Summaries:

The first league match and saw the reigning league champions, the Netanya Orange Hawks, play the new league franchise and current league leaders, the Eilat Silver Sharks. And, what a game. Last week, Yaakov Singer had a goal and Yehuda Rudack had an assist. This week Yaakov Singer had 2 goals and an assist and Yehuda Rudack had a goal and an assist. Duvie Bergman had the lone goal for the Silver Sharks. the final score, the Netanya Orange Hawks 3, the Eilat Silver Sharks 1.

The second league match featured the Haifa Green Eagles and the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves. Though the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves looked great and like a completely different team from last week, they were still unable to beat the Eagles. The Eagles won 4-1. The Eagles had goals from Sammy Melman, Jacob Melman, Iky Cohen, and Moshe Schorr. Nathaniel Felber assisted Jacob Melman’s goal. The Red Wolves lone goal came from Danny Dasher with an assist from Naftali Simcha Swartz.

The third and final league match featured the Bnai Brak Golden Lions and the Tel Aviv Blue Dolphins. The Lions won 3-0 with two goals by Naftali Schwartz and the third goal coming from an own-goal.

Week 2 Honors
The “Play Hard” Players of the Week: The goalie for the Eilat Silver Sharks was outstanding today. His intensity, his goalie saves, and his ability to distribute the ball after the save were all fantastic. Several of his punts were so gorgeous that the fans were forced to laugh out loud. AND, he seemed to do all this great work with a smile on his face. The Hapoel Silver Spring Soccer Club is proud to have this boy as part of our league. And, the first Play Hard Player of the Week is… Shlomo Menachem Lipman, Eilat Silver Sharks.

The Second Play Hard Player of the Week just… played hard. As a defender of the Eilat Silver Sharks, he is called on often to play hard and play tough. And, today was no exception. He had several great defensive efforts and… he just played very hard. This player was involved in quite a bit of physical play and was such a huge asset to the Silver sharks. The second Play Hard Player of the Week is… Shmueli Mark, Eilat Silver Sharks.

Shmueli Mark, Eilat Silver Sharks – Week 2 Play Hard Player of the Week

Our third and final Play Hard Player of the Week plays goalie for the Haifa Green Eagles. If you remember him from last year, you remember why he is winning the Play Hard award. This player is one of the most intense, hard-working players in the league. And, his play in goal today was… excellent. The third and final Play Hard Player of the Week is… Yonah Soskin, Haifa Green Eagles.

The “Play Smart” Player of the Week: This week’s first Play Smart Player of the Week played a beautiful game. He played defense for the Haifa Green Eagles today and, as quoted by his coach, Coach Ravin, “Daniel was simply outstanding on defense. You have to give him some recognition for his fantastic play.” And, the Hapoel Soccer Committee is not one to argue with an effort from one of our boys that merits such high praise. Daniel played hard. Daniel played smart. And, the This week’s first Play Smart Player of the Week is… Daniel Ginsburg, Haifa Green Eagles

There are two more Play Smart Players of the Week and both play for the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves. One had an outstanding game on the field and one had an outstanding game in the nets. The field player played an all-around great game including a full-field effort that concluded in his teams only goal of the game. The goalie just played superb. Goalie is a very difficult position to play and this boy made it look easy. Both boys are named Daniel. And, the This week’s second Play Smart Player of the Week are… Danny Dasher and Daniel Israel (Goalie), Be’er Sheva Red Wolves.

The “Mensch” players of the week: Maybe it’s just me but… aren’t all the Netanya Orange Hawk games good fun. And, why is this? I have one answer. Because everybody wants to be the first team to beat them! That is right. After an undefeated season last year and their two wins thus far this season, the Netanya Orange Hawks have an unbeaten streak of 10 games! Our first Mensch Player of the Week are the players of Team Natanya Orange Hawks… Returning from last year are: Max Frankl, Yaakov Singer, Noah Horn, Mendel Cohen, and Yechezkiel Levine, and the new team additions are: Jeremy Kardon, Yehuda Rudack, Yoni Ferneau, Chaim Shlomo Komarow, and Dovid Levine. The Hapoel Silver Spring Soccer Committee would like to draw special attention to four boys on the Orange Hawks for their efforts today. Yaakov Singer and Yehuda Rudack for their goals and assists on the day and Max Frankl and Chaim Shlomo Komaraow for their selfless play, respectively, on the field and in the goal.

Our second Mensch Player of the week is a familiar name to this league and to this award. Last season he was the leader of the B’nai Brak Golden Lions and, this season,… he is picking up right where he left off. He scored two goals for the Golden Lions and, above all, he was a big mensch. Our second Mensch Player of the Week is… Naftali Schwartz, B’nai Brak Golden Lions.

Our third and final Mensch Player of the Week is from the Haifa Green Eagles. This player was described as “shredding” the opposing teams defense. And, his goal was the goal that made the score 3-1 and served as a critical moment in the match. For his outstanding offensive effort and for playing like a big mensch, the third and final Mensch Player of the Week is… Iky Cohen, Haifa Green Eagles.

The goals for Team Yerushalayim were scored by Noach Bergman (two), Izzy Kates, and a goal to seal the victory after regulation time by Eli Bergman. Eli Bergman also had an assist on Izzy Kates’ goal. Team Chevron’s goals were scored by Steven Elenberg with an assist by Jonathan Galitzer and Zeke Melman.

A tough Team Tiveria played Team Tsfat and… tied them 1-1. Elisha Klejman had the goal for Tiveria and Dovid Feldman had a goal for Tsfat which was assisted by Akiva Singer. Both teams fought very hard to the very end of the match.

After week three, though the league is not locked in a four-way tie, the teams are obviously very evenly matched. Any team is capable of beating any team on any given day. The second half of the season and the play-offs should be great soccer.

Week 3 Honors
The “Play Hard” Player of the Week: Playing goalie is a very difficult task. Especially when you are playing against Yerushalayim. This player plays hard every week, but, this week he played particularly hard. To quote his coach, Coach Melman, “Our goalie, Daniel, played a great game. we very much needed him today.” For demonstrating his great talent and putting forward such a great effort, the Play Hard Player of the Week is… Daniel Felber, Chevron.

There are many rivalries that can become very “heated”. One of those rivalries that can get “too heated” is when two brothers play against each other. Frequently, in order to avoid the play being “over heated”, the two brothers just make a point of not playing too hard. In this case, the two brothers played very hard and still behaved like mensches. For their great play this week, these two Play Hard Players of the Week are… Jordan Frances, Chevron and Jason Frances, Yerushalayim.

This player brought back memories of last season. Possibly the best offensive duo of last season was Akiva Singer and Dovid Feldman of Team Tsfat. This week, Akiva and Dovid brought back memories of their scoring prowess. Akiva Singer dribbled the whole field and passed the ball to Dovid Feldman. Dovid made one of his patented “change of pace, change of direction” moves and tucked the ball neatly into the back of the net. A gorgeous play all around. And, for their effort throughout the whole game and for bringing back wonderful memories of last season, the final “Play Hard” award goes to Akiva Singer and Dovid Feldman, Team Tsfat.

Past “Play Hard” Award Winners this Season:
Week 1- Dani Singer, Team Tsfat and Matty Miller, Yerushalayim
Week 2- Shalom Sukol, Chevron

The “Play Smart” Players of the Week: Two players blossomed this week. Both of these players scored goals for their respective teams. The first player scored a goal for Team Tiveria and the second player had a goal and an assist for Team Yerushalyim. The player from Team Tiveria made it obvious this week that he can play hard and he can play very smart. We look forward to seeing even more of this new talent to our league. The second player from Team Yerushalayim showed us he could play hard and smart all last season and demonstrated this for us again during this week’s game. The two Hapoel Soccer Smart Players of the Week are…. Elisha Klejman, Tiveria and Eli Bergman, Yerushalayim.

Past “Play Smart ” Award Winners this Season:
Week 1- Noach Bergman, Yerushalayim.
Week 2- Max Byer (Goalie), Ami Ifrah, and Ari Byer, Team Tsfat.

The “Mensch” Players of the Week: One player for Team Tiveria was the “engine” of the team last year and continues to be the “engine” of the team this year. His work rate is impressive, but this is not what makes him stand-out as a player and a mensch. What makes him stand-out as a player and a mensch is that whether his team is winning, losing, or tied, he never stops doing all he can to help his team. He plays hard, he plays smart, and… he’s a big mensch. This player from Team Tiveria and the Mensch Player of the Week is… Saadia Tuchman, Team Tiveria.

Past “Mensch” Award Winners this Season:
Week 1- Steven Elenberg and Jonathan Galitzer, Team Chevron.
Week 2- Elie Mendlowitz, Team Tiveria and Dovid Feldman, Team Tsfat

THE K’TANA LEAGUE Player Honors – Week Three

Boy’s Division: K’tana League (1st – 3rd Grade Boys)

Game Summaries:

The first league match saw the reigning league champions, the Netanya Orange Hawks, play the new league franchise , the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves. And, what a game. Though the Red Wolves were supposed to be the underdog in this match-up, you would never know it. The Orange Hawks won 2-0, but the Red Wolves showed the whole league their dramatic improvement as a team and that the Red Wolves will be a team “to look for” during the second half of the regular season and the play-offs. Yaakov Singer scored the first goal for the Orange Hawks while Max Frankl scored the second with an assist from Yehuda Rudack.

The second league match featured the Haifa Green Eagles and the Netanya Blue Dolphins. The Blue Dolphins were missing some players and… the Green Eagles looked great. The Eagles won 1-0. The Eagles lone goal came from Sammy Melman.

The third and final league match featured the Bnai Brak Golden Lions and the Eilat Silver Sharks. The Lions were up 3-1 at one point during the game and the Silver Sharks fought back in a heroic manner to finish the game with a score of 4-4. Naftali Schwartz scored all four goals for the Golden Eagles. The Silver Sharks goals were scored by Shmueli Mark, Duvie Bergman, and the final two goals, which both happened to be gorgeous goals, by Naftali Ginsburg. Duvie Bergman assisted on one of Ginsburg’s goals while Naftali Ginsburg assisted on one of Bergman’s goals. With the quality play and the gorgeous goals, this may have been the best game of the season thus far.

Heading into the mid-season break and the holidays, it is anybody’s guess who the top team in the league is. We’ll have to wait to finish the rest of the regular season and see how the play-offs play out. One thing is for sure though. The boys in this league are great players and big mensches and, as a consequence, this is a great league!

Week 3 Honors
The “Play Hard” Players of the Week: Plain and simple, one player for the B’nai Brak Golden Lions played very hard. He was all over the field and… just played very hard. And, the first Play Hard Player of the Week is… Avi Pines, B’nai Brak Golden Lions.

The Second Play Hard Player of the Week just… played hard. He is another player for the Golden Lions. Though smaller than most of the boys on the field, he doesn’t seem to know this. He had several great defensive efforts and… he just played very hard. The second Play Hard Player of the Week is… Eliyahu Feldman, B’nai Brak Golden Lions.

The final Play Hard Player of the Week played an excellent all around game: both on offense and on defense. Offensively, he helped to keep the pressure on the Tel Aviv Blue Dolphins and defensively, he kept the Tel Aviv Blue Dolphins from scoring a goal. Multiple times he stopped attacks from the Blue Dolphins and immediately outletted the ball to our offense. Coach Ravin was extremely pleased with his players performance. And, the final Play Hard Player of the Week is… Nathanial Felber, Haifa Green Eagles.

Past “Play Hard” Award Winners this Season:
Week 1- Duvie Bergman, Eilat Silver Sharks and Yaakov Singer, Netanya Orange Hawks.
Week 2- Shlomo Menachem Lipman, Eilat Silver Sharks, Shmueli Mark, Eilat Silver Sharks, and Yonah Soskin, Haifa Green Eagles.

The “Play Smart” Player of the Week: This week’s first Play Smart Player of the Week played a beautiful game. He scored four goals for the B’nai Brak Golden Lions and in the process broke two K’tana League records: the “most goals scored in a single game” and the “most points scored in a game”. He played hard and he played very, very smart. And, this week’s first Play Smart Player of the Week is… Naftali Schwartz, B’nai Brak Golden Lions.

The second Play Smart Player of the Week and he plays for the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves. This player is not a flashy player, nor is he an extraverted player. He quietly does his job on the field and he happens to do it very well. he plays very hard. And, he plays very smart. This week this player happened to play with an extra level of “smartness”. And, this week’s second Play Smart Player of the Week is… Yonaton Abrams, Be’er Sheva Red Wolves. As an aside, I am not even sure if Yonaton knows what a nutmeg is, but.. he had two in this week’s game. Great game, Yonaton.

The final Play Smart Player award goes to a player who helped Nathaniel Felber to ensure the Blue Dolphins didn’t score a goal… the goalkeeper for the second half of the Green Eagles game. Up to this point in the season, this player had not played goalie during a game, although he had previously voiced his interest. In the second half, with the Blue Dolphins stepping up their intensity to try to tie the game, this player’s goalkeeping helped to save the day and his play was tremendous. His aggressive style of play, in not being afraid to move away from the goal, and in not being tentative to go after loose balls in traffic, truly preserved the Green Eagles’ victory today. And, this week’s final Play Smart Player of the Week is… Moshe Schorr, Haifa Green Eagles.

Past “Play Smart” Award Winners this Season:
Week 1- Yehuda Mendlowitz, Tel Aviv Blue Dolphins
Week 2- Daniel Ginsburg, Haifa Green Eagles and Danny Dasher and Daniel Israel (Goalie), Be’er Sheva Red Wolves.

The “Mensch” players of the week: One player had a “coming out” party this week. Though he has played well all season, he played unbelievably this week. His team was down 3-1 and he never gave up. Not only did he score two goals to tie the Golden Lions 4-4, he scored two gorgeous goals. He never gave up, he played beautifully, and he did all of this very humbly. Our first Mensch Player of the Week is… Naftali Ginsburg, Eilat Silver Sharks. We so look forward to watching this big mensch play for the rest of this season.

Our second and final Mensch Player of the Week is from the Netanya Orange Hawks. This player has placed his team’s needs before his own needs all season. Though being the league leader in goal scoring last season, he has decided to take on a substantially more defensive role this season. Why? Because that is where the team needs him. Not only does this player accept his new role graciously, he plays it beautifully. And, this week, not only did he manage to fulfill his important defensive role, he also found a way to score a goal. For his outstanding effort as a true team player and for playing like a big mensch, the second and final Mensch Player of the Week is… Max Frankl, Netanya Orange Hawks.

Past “Mensch” Award Winners this Season:
Week 1- Robert Elenberg, Be’er Sheva Red Wolves
Week 2- Naftali Schwartz, B’nai Brak Golden Lions, Iky Cohen, Haifa Green Eagles and The Team Netanya Orange Hawks (Max Frankl, Yaakov Singer, Noah Horn, Mendel Cohen, Yechezkiel Levine, Jeremy Kardon, Yehuda Rudack, Yoni Ferneau, Chaim Shlomo Komarow, and Dovid Levine.

Week 3 Honors
The “Play Hard” Players of the Week: This player played great this week. She worked so hard all game, it seemed that like she was in two places at one time. She played offense. She played defense. she scored Tel Aviv’s first goal of the game. And, she played very hard and… for this reason, the Play Hard Player of the Week is… Rochel Biberfeld, Tel Aviv (Blue).

Playing goalie is very hard. And, playing goalie when the opposing team is taking numerous shots is even harder. This player played very hard in goal. And, after being scored on several times, she never quit. She kept working very hard at the position she was playing: goalie. Eventually, this player left the goal to play in the field, but only because the coach wanted to her come out of goal. This player played very hard and… she never quit. And, when she was playing in the field, she played just as hard! For her fantastic effort and for showing such tenacity, the second Play Hard player of the week is… Falicia Elenberg, Eilat (Orange)

This player shows up every week ready to play hard and play smart. She loves this game and she is very good at playing it. The defining characteristic of this player is intensity. In the G’dola League, this player has been working very hard, playing very smart, and has been doing great things for her team all season, yet… she hadn’t scored a goal yet. It takes a very big mensch to work and work and work for their team and never get to experience any “personal glory”. This player plays for her team and not for selfish reasons. Game Summaries

Team Tsfat vs. Team Yerushalayim was an outstanding match this week. The last time they faced-off against each other this season, Team Yerushalayim won 4-2. This time a round, the score was 1-1. And, the game was a great one. The goals for Team Yerushalayim was scored by Noach Bergman who played brilliantly. Team Tsfat’s goal was actually an unfortunate own goal.

Team Tiveria played Team Chevron and were beaten 1-0. The last time that they these two teams played each other this season, Tiveria also lost by one goal. Chevron’s Jonathan Galitzer had the game’s lone goal.

This week was another week where still no one can guess who is truly the leagues “top” team. The first place team is 1 point ahead of the second that is one point ahead of the third, etc. This is a league with true parity.

Week 4 Honors
The “Play Hard” Player of the Week: Playing goalie is a very difficult task. And, when a goalie plays well, it is wonderful to watch. Today, Yerushalayim’s goalie played fantastically. For putting forward such a great effort, the first Play Hard Player of the Week is… Jason Kardon, Yerushalayim.

The second and final Play Hard Player of the week is actually a team. This team was missing two of their top defenders and one of their better goal scorers. Before their game started against one of the best teams in the league and the current league standings leader, they knew they had a formidable task ahead of them. Yet, this team came onto the field ready to play and… they played extremely hard. The Final score was a 1-1 tie with Team Yerushalayim and this was a well earned tie. This player plays for Chevron and to quote Coach Katz of the opposing team, Team Tiveria, “Yisroel made at least three saves that were extremely tough shots.” The final score of the game was 1-0 with Chevron winning and Yisroel’s saves were critical to this victory. BUT, this is not why he is winning the Mensch Player Award of the Week. This player is winning the award because he plays hard, he plays smart, he had an outstanding game, and… He is a big mensch both on and off the field. We are proud to give this week’s Mensch Player of the Week award to… Yisroel Mond, Chevron.

THE K’TANA LEAGUE Player Honors – Week Four

Boy’s Division: K’tana League (1st – 3rd Grade Boys)

Game Summaries:

The first league match saw the reigning league champions, the Netanya Orange Hawks, play an old rival: the Bnai Brak Golden Lions. Both teams had several opportunities to score and the fans appreciated every moment of this exciting match. The final score was the Orange Hawks 1, the Golden Lions 0. Yaakov Singer scored the lone goal of the match and his 5th goal of this season. Also, this win extends the Netanya Orange Hawks unbeaten, untied streak to 12 games. Truly impressive.

The second league match featured the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves and the Netanya Blue Dolphins. Both teams played beautifully, but the Blue Dolphins unique style of play was just too much for the Red Wolves on this day. The final score was the Blue Dolphins 3, the Red Wolves 0. The Blue Dolphin’s three goals were tallied by the Dolphins leading scorer, Yitzi Feldman. While certainly not Yitzi’s first goals of his career, this was his first hat-trick.

The third and final league match featured the Haifa Green Eagles and the Eilat Silver Sharks. The Green Eagles came into this match with an unbeaten record and surprisingly fell to a Silver Shark team that has recently just been on fire on the soccer field. Both teams played beautifully and… what a match. The Silver Sharks beat the Green Eagles 4-1. Duvie Bergman had the first goal for the Silver Sharks with an assist from Naftali Ginsburg. The final final three goals for the Sharks were all scored by Eli Bookstaber and were all assisted by Duvie Bergman. The Green Eagles lone goal was scored by Nathaniel Felber and was assisted by Jacob Mellman.

The Orange Hawks continue to hold onto their unbeaten, untied streak and, as a consequence, have to be favored to “win it all”. With this said, the Silver Sharks have looked great lately and have jumped into second place in the league standings. The league is heating up! And, who knows who will have a winning streak during the play-offs. Again, the league is heating up!

Week 3 Honors
The “Play Hard” Players of the Week: Despite giving up a goal and losing 1-0, the Golden Lions Defense was stellar. Keep in mind, the Golden Lions were playing against the very high-powered Orange Hawk Offense. Three players had outstanding games on defense for the Lions and played exceptionally well. These three Play Hard Players of the Week are… Nachi Bramson, Mickey Pines, and Moshe Dovolsky (goalie), B’nai Brak Golden Lions.

The second Play Hard Players of the Week are actually the Play Hard Team of the Week. This team just… played hard. Sometimes it’s easier to work harder and harder as an individual when you know that your teammates are doing the exact the same thing. And, this team proved this today. This team and the individual players within it played hard and played well. The second Play Hard Players of the week are… the Tel Aviv Blue Dolphins (Aaron Komarow, Huda Mendlowitz, Yitzi Feldman, Aviaad Grunhaus, Chaiby Leiman, Yoni Hawk, Ahrele Leiman, Meir Komarow, and Shlomo Yaakov Danesh. A special mention needs to be made for Yitzi Feldman’s hat-trick: 3 goals. Great job Yitzi and great job to the Tel Aviv Blue Dolphins.

The third and final Play Hard player of the week played HARD. And, to anyone who watched this boy play last year, it was no surprise to watch him dominate all over the field today. One word best describes this player… relentless. The third Play Hard Player of the week is… Avrohom Mond, Eilat Silver Sharks.

Past “Play Hard” Award Winners this Season:

Team Tiveria is the only team to have beaten Team Yerushalayim during this season and, this week, Team Yerushalayim avenged that loss with a 2-1 win. Matty Miller had the first goal for Yerushalayim while Noach Bergman had the second. Noach Aryeh Schwartz had the lone goal for Team Tiveria.

Team Tsfat played Team Chevron and were locked at 0-0 late into the second half. Then, with seconds left to play, Tsfat’s Dovid Feldman scored the game winner. Dani Singer had the assist on the goal. Needless to say, the Tsfat players and fans were very enthusiastic about the win. Probably the leagues most exciting game of the day.

Week 5 Honors
The “Play Hard” Player of the Week: This player was a large part of Team Tiveria’s success last season and, this season, he continues to play an integral role in Tiveria’s success. During today’s game vs. Yerushalayim, this player had one of his better games. Though he did not score a goal or have an assist, it was obvious that he was “making things happen”. The first Play Hard Player of the Week is… Yoel Jaffe, Team Tiveria.

The second and final Play Hard Player of the week played a beautiful game at defense for Team Tsfat. This player is capable of doing so much for Team Tsfat and… that is exactly what he does week in and week out. He may be one of the team’s hardest working and most valuable players. For his great play this week, the second Play Hard Player of the Week is… Gedalia Kott, Team Tsfat.

Week 1- Dani Singer, Team Tsfat and Matty Miller, Yerushalayim

For playing and playing smart, the first Play Smart Player of the Week is… Noach Aryeh Schwartz, Tiveria.

He is a major part of Team Yerushalayim’s success this season, yet, thus far this season, his major contribution to the team hadn’t been goals. And, today, this player not only scored his first goal of the season, but he scored a gorgeous goal. He dribbled right and cut the shot back to the left and rocketed his shot into the goal’s opposite side netting and… a gorgeous goal. For having possibly one of the best shots in the league, possibly one of the best goals of the season thus far, and for his patience in waiting for his first goal of the season, the Mensch Player of the Week is… Matty Miller, Team Yerushalayim.

Boy’s Division: K’tana League (1st – 3rd Grade Boys)

Game Summaries:

The first league match saw the Regular Season League Champion, Netanya Orange Hawks, play the Be’er Sheva Red Wolves. You’d think that the Orange Hawks would dominate this game from start to finish, but… this was not the case. The Red Wolves who have steadily improved all season showed a high level of skill and determination. Though the Orange Hawks won by a score of 3-0, this was truly a great game for both squads. The Orange Hawks goals were scored by Yaakov Singer (2 goals) and Noah Horn. Noah’s goal was assisted by Chaim Shlomo Komarow.

The second league match featured the Netanya Blue Dolphins and the Bnai Brak Golden Lions. This match-up is an old rivalry and, as was to be expected, proved to be a fantastic game. The Blue Dolphins defense was stellar and … Yitzi Feldman, the leagues leading goal scorer in last year’s play-offs, scored two goals.

The third and final league match featured the Haifa Green Eagles and the Eilat Silver Sharks. The Green Eagles won the match 3-1 with a hat-trick (3 goals) from Iky Cohen. The Silver Shark’s lone goal came from Duvie Bergman. The Green Eagles seem determined to take this league by storm.

The second Play Hard Player of the Week had an unbelievable game. He scored a hat-trick (3 goals) for his team. Game Summaries

Team Tiveria had a very difficult semi-final match-up against Team Yerushalayim. Despite Team Tiveria missing their leading scorer and a key playmaker, they played tough all game. Unfortunately, Team Yerushalayim proved to be too much for them to handle and they finished the game with a 3-0 loss. Team Yerushalayim, the leagues regular season champion, had two gorgeous goals from Matty Miller and the third came from Noach Bergman.

Team Tsfat played Team Chevron in the other semi-final. This match-up was a rematch of last year’s Grand Final and this year’s game proved no less exciting. Despite being down 1-0, Team Chevron came back to win the game 2-1. The first goal came from a beautiful instep drive from Zeke melman which Steven Elenberg barely needed to touch to sneak by the Tsfat goalie. The winning goal came from Yisroel Mond with an assist from Steven Elenberg.
