Hapoel Teams Play For Championships

The Hapoel soccer league held title games in all the boys and girls divisions last week.

In the sixth-eighth-grade division, Silver edged Green, 2-1, to win that title. Jonathan Galitzer and Jesse Zweben both scored once while Gabe Rybeck got the Green's only goal. Purple scored a 2-1 victory over Blue in the first consolation final. Naftali Swartz and Saadia Tuchman both got goals for the Purple team. Noah Zweben scored the lone Blue goal.

The Red team pulled out a 4-1 decision over Yellow in the second consolation final. Yoshi Tannenbaum led Red with three goals while Dovid Feldman got the other. Avi Kallmeyer scored a Yellow goal.

In the fourth-fifth-grade division, Red won the championship with a 3-2 victory over Blue. Jacob Myers scored two goals, and Akiva Chefitz added one more. For the Blue team, Binyamin Edelstein got a goal and an assist while Yehuda Edelstein scored once. The Silver team won in the first consolation final by the same score, beating the Green squad. Jacob Mellman, Chaim Hes and Jamie Dekelbaum scored one goal apiece in the victory. Tani Makovsky scored both Green goals.

Daniel Schopf had three goals and one assist to lead Yellow to a 5-0 rout of Purple in the second consolation game. Nadiv Panitch added a goal and an assist while Ari Levisohn helped with a goal.

The second-third-grade division also had a close title game as Daniel Zweben's goal gave Silver a 1-0 overtime victory over Green. Elijah Zack scored all the goals in Red's 4-3 victory over Blue in the first consolation final. Eliezer Shemtov led Blue with two goals while Binyamin Broth added one.

Purple shut out Forest, 3-0, in the second consolation final. Joshua Straus led the way with two goals, and Daniel Goldman got the other. The Yellow team edged Royal, 2-1, in the third consolation final. Perry Ross scored for Yellow, which took advantage of an own goal. Moshe Chaim Majeski scored the only Royal goal.

The kindergarten-first-grade division also had a bunch of close games. Justin Galitzer's hat trick gave Red a 3-1 victory over Blue. Ari Schopf scored Blue's goal.

Samuel Kushnir scored twice, and Yoav Cohn added one more to give Silver a 3-0 shutout of Yellow in the first consolation final. Daniel Offer got four goals, and Noam Roth one more as Purple rolled to a 5-0 shutout of Green. Avi Majeski led Royal to a 6-1 victory over Forest in the third consolation final. Elior Waskow scored the Forest goal.

For the girls, the Yellow team captured the sixth- through eighth-grade division championship with a 2-0 victory over Purple. Estee Rebibo and Ateret Sultan-Reisler both scored once.

Nellie Gold-Pastor and Sarah Shulman led Silver to a 2-0 shutout of Blue in the consolation final. Gold-Pastor led with a goal and an assist while Shulman added a goal.

The Purple team blanked Yellow, 3-0, in the fourth-fifth-grade championship game. Aviva Lombardo led the way with two goals and one assist while Shoshana Kott added a goal.

Hannah Mendelsohn's overtime goal gave the Blue team a 1-0 decision over Silver in the consolation final.

The second- and third-grade division saw two tight games. The Blue edged Silver, 2-1, in overtime in the championship game. Caroline Plum and Shana Lowenstein both scored once. Elyana Schwartz gave Silver its only goal. Nesiah Ely's goal gave Purple a 1-0 victory over Yellow in the consolation final.

The Purple team breezed to a 5-1 victory over Silver in the kindergarten-first-grade championship game. Hadara Bilsky led the winners with two goals while Eliana Raskas, Adielle Tuchman and Rayna Armon all scored one goal apiece. Danielle Dekelbaum scored the Silver goal.

Mirian Edelmstein and Rachel Lipman each scored once to help Blue to a 3-1 victory over Yellow in the consolation final. Hadas Dubrawsky registered the Yellow goal.

The All-Mensch Game

And last Sunday, the league played its annual All-Mensch game, an adult soccer game where parents, coaches and friends who have an interest in soccer and are older than b'nai mitzvah age can play.

In the men's game, Potomac scored a 4-1 victory over Silver Spring. Danny Weiss scored two goals, Giorgio Kulp and Andrew Sporkin both added one apiece for Potomac. Jon Galitzer got the Silver Spring score.

The Red team blanked White, 3-0, in the women's game. Amy Sukol scored two goals while Adina Goldberg added another in the victory.
